Karnataka Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar Accuses C.T. Ravi of Using Abusive Language During Legislative Council Session

Belagavi, Dec 20 (NationPress) Karnataka Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Laxmi Hebbalkar, alleged that BJP MLC C.T. Ravi directed offensive remarks towards her, at least 10 times in the Legislative Council.

During a press conference that unfolded amidst significant turmoil regarding the ‘arrest’ of BJP MLC C.T. Ravi, the minister noted that all council members acted like ‘Dhritarashtra’ while derogatory comments were hurled at her.

She became emotional and teary-eyed while speaking to the media.

Reflecting on the incident, Minister Laxmi recounted, “After a protest concerning remarks made about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in the council, we sat in silence for 10 minutes before the House was adjourned by the Chairperson. He left for his chamber while I remained seated.”

“At this point, C.T. Ravi repeatedly labeled our leader Rahul Gandhi a drug addict three or four times. I continued to sit quietly. Then, looking at me, C.T. Ravi again referred to Rahul Gandhi as a drug addict. I responded by saying that since he had been in an accident, he could also be called a murderer,” Laxmi stated.

“Following that, as you all know, C.T. Ravi began using derogatory language against me. It’s appalling to even mention the terms he employed. I have navigated numerous challenges in politics, starting as a common worker, and I represent all women in the state. That derogatory term was directed at me at least 10 times,” she asserted.

“As a mother, sister, and wife, I feel the pain deeply. Many women are inspired to enter politics after witnessing my journey. If women are treated this way in the House, it is profoundly hurtful,” she added.

“In politics, emotionally charged speeches are sometimes delivered. I have never harmed even an insect. I have engaged in politics with integrity and dedicated myself to public service. I avoid negative influences. It is common to encounter challenging situations in politics, and we must be brave,” Minister Laxmi remarked.

“The council is recognized as the Upper House and a place for intellectuals. Yet, on the floor of the House, C.T. Ravi used such language while everyone stood like Dhritarashtras. My party members approached me to express their apologies. How am I supposed to feel?” she questioned.

“When the discussion was about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, why was Rahul Gandhi dragged into it? I addressed this in my speech and became the target,” she stated.

“My daughter-in-law, who was hospitalized, called me and said, ‘You are a warrior.’ My son, who resides in Bengaluru, also reached out. My supporters in the constituency and the state stand with me. I prefer not to elaborate further,” she concluded.

BJP MLC C.T. Ravi was taken into custody on Thursday evening following a police complaint lodged by Women and Child Welfare Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar.

In contrast, Ravi has denied the allegations, asserting that he used the words “frustrate” and “frustration” rather than “prostitute” as alleged against him.
