Shimla, March 17 (NationPress) The Government of Himachal Pradesh announced on Tuesday its decision to revoke the 'Cabinet Rank' status currently held by various officials, including the Chairpersons, Vice-Chairpersons, and Deputy Chairpersons of Boards, Corporations, and Commissions, in addition to Principal Advisors and Political Advisors.
A spokesperson for the government clarified that this move aims to enhance the efficiency of administrative protocols. Furthermore, it was stated that 20% of the salaries and monthly benefits of the affected officials will be withheld until September 30, 2026.
Additionally, the spokesperson noted that all Administrative Secretaries have been directed to take immediate actions to implement this decision.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, during a one-day Principal's Conference focused on reforms in higher education in Shimla, emphasized that despite facing financial difficulties, the budget allocated for education and health sectors will remain intact.
He reaffirmed that education is a primary concern for the state government, and significant efforts are being made to ensure quality education reaches students, even in remote areas.
Sukhu remarked, “Fostering self-confidence is crucial for students to tackle future challenges effectively, and the role of educators is essential.” He highlighted the government's various initiatives aimed at transforming the education landscape.
The Chief Minister advocated for the establishment of new specialized colleges in fields such as science, commerce, and fine arts. He mentioned a new science college being developed in Hamirpur on a 50 bigha campus, with an investment of Rs 20 crore allocated for this project. Plans are also underway to create commerce and other specialized colleges throughout the state.
Moreover, Sukhu stated that efforts are underway to address existing gaps and implement meaningful reforms in higher education. Recruitment processes for 400 Assistant Professor positions and 400 Junior Assistant Professor roles are currently in progress. He also called for the introduction of contemporary courses and additional language programs in colleges to enhance student employability.
To maintain educational standards, a new college ranking system has been initiated, similar to the existing school rankings.
Sukhu emphasized that the health sector is also a crucial priority for the government, with ongoing reforms in this area. He noted that, thanks to government initiatives, advanced MRI machines have been installed in medical colleges, and the feedback on robotic surgeries has been positive.
He added that the Revenue Deficit Grant for the state has been terminated, and financial assistance of Rs 1,600 crore has been denied, which is linked to the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for government employees. Sukhu asserted, “The OPS was not a politically driven decision; it is a demonstration of the state government’s dedication to ensuring social security for employees in their retirement.”
