Why Does the Opposition Fail to Recognize This Historic Budget?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) BJP Bihar State President Sanjay Saraogi on Monday ardently supported the Union Budget 2026–27, labeling it as “historic” and accusing the opposition of willfully neglecting the development initiatives spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially for Bihar.
“In truth, the opposition lacks substantial arguments. Since independence, those in power have contributed minimally to Bihar. Presently, under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, who has been drafting the budget since 2014, the entire nation is progressing towards self-sufficiency, and Bihar is making significant strides,” Saraogi stated while commenting on the budget unveiled in Parliament.
He pointed out that the opposition fails to recognize the infrastructure and development projects proposed for the state.
“The opposition is blind to these advancements. New waterways, including those on the Ganga, Kosi, Gandak, and Ghaghara rivers, along with the Sonpur region, will be developed. Nationwide, two ship repair ecosystems have been announced, one of which is allocated to Bihar. Yet, the opposition chooses to ignore this,” he remarked.
Saraogi also underscored the government's commitment to women's empowerment.
“Under Prime Minister Modi, numerous progressive initiatives aimed at enhancing women's empowerment through the strengthening of the ‘Jeevika Didi’ program have been established. For a ‘Viksit Bharat’, a ‘Viksit Bihar’ is essential, and today, the Prime Minister is doing everything within his power to uplift the state and drive it towards progress,” he added.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in Parliament on Sunday. The budget outlines various measures focusing on infrastructure, logistics, urban development, and MSMEs, which are anticipated to benefit Bihar in the long run.
Significant announcements include substantial investments in inland waterways, freight corridors, and logistics reforms. Bihar is set to gain significantly from the development of the Ganga river corridor, which will facilitate low-cost transportation for agricultural produce, cement, coal, and construction materials. Goods from Bihar will be transported to Kolkata Port via the Ganga, enhancing export capabilities and industrial viability.
To bolster river transport infrastructure, the budget unveiled plans for a ship repair and maintenance ecosystem in Patna. This facility is expected to support both cargo and passenger transport on the Ganga and stimulate industrial activity in districts such as Patna, Bhojpur, Begusarai, Munger, and Bhagalpur.
Earlier on Sunday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed support for the budget despite opposition critiques. In a post on X, he stated, “The union budget is positive and commendable. The budget presented by the central government is aligned with the vision of developing India. This budget is progressive and forward-thinking.”
He further emphasized, “This budget encompasses crucial measures to accelerate the nation's development.”
Highlighting infrastructure advancements, Nitish Kumar noted, “This budget has announced the establishment of seven high-speed rail corridors across the country. Among these, the Varanasi-Siliguri high-speed rail corridor will yield significant benefits for Bihar as well.”
Regarding waterways, he added, “The budget has proposed 20 new national waterways in the country. Under this initiative, ship repair facilities will be established in Patna and Varanasi. The expansion of waterways will benefit numerous cities in Bihar, enhance export capabilities for the state's products, and invigorate commercial and business activities.”
