HM Shah to Unveil 'Bharatpol' Portal for Tracking Global Cyber Criminals

New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the ‘Bharatpol’ portal on Tuesday, developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This initiative aims to provide law enforcement agencies with access to international police support in tackling cyber and financial crimes.

The rise of transnational offenses such as cyber-crime, financial fraud, online radicalization, organized crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking underscores the urgent need for swift and real-time international cooperation in criminal investigations. To meet this demand, the CBI has created the Bharatpol Portal, which will be available via its official website, uniting all relevant parties on a single platform, as stated by the ministry.

This portal is expected to greatly enhance the capabilities of Indian law enforcement agencies (LEAs) by providing real-time information sharing for quicker access to international police support.

As the National Central Bureau (NCB-New Delhi) for Interpol in India, the CBI plays a pivotal role in fostering international collaboration in criminal matters, working alongside various agencies throughout the nation, including law enforcement bodies, the statement noted.

Coordination at the Central, State, and Union Territory levels is managed through Interpol Liaison Officers (ILOs), who connect with Unit Officers (UOs) at the ranks of Superintendents of Police, Commissioners of Police, and Branch Heads within their respective agencies. Currently, communication between the CBI, ILOs, and UOs primarily relies on traditional methods such as letters, emails, and faxes, according to the statement.

The Bharatpol portal will optimize the handling of all requests for international assistance via Interpol, including the issuance of Red Notices and other Interpol notices.

The statement further highlighted that the Bharatpol portal will serve as a revolutionary resource for frontline police officers, boosting their effectiveness in addressing crime and security issues. By simplifying and expediting access to international support, it will fortify India’s efforts to combat transnational crimes.

Additionally, Home Minister Shah will honor 35 CBI officials with Police Medals, recognizing their distinguished service with the President’s Police Medals and the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation.

Several dignitaries and senior representatives from various Ministries and Departments, including the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, DoPT, Central Vigilance Commission, and Central Police Organizations, are expected to attend the event in New Delhi.
