Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mysuru (Karnataka), Dec 29 (NationPress) A staff member on Monday shared the chilling details of a bold daylight heist where an armed group stole approximately 7 kg of gold and diamonds valued at Rs 10 crore from a jewellery store in Hunsur, Mysuru district.
As previously reported, in a daring robbery, a seven-member gang stormed into the Sky Gold and Diamonds showroom, situated behind the Hunsur bus stand, around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (December 28). Brandishing firearms, the masked intruders menaced the staff and made off with gold jewellery worth several crore rupees before escaping on two motorcycles. Most of the suspects were masked, with one wearing a helmet.
The entire incident was recorded on CCTV cameras. Employees tried to pursue the robbers but were unable to catch them. Initial reports indicated that about 4 kg of gold was stolen, but later evaluations confirmed that 7 kg of jewellery had been taken.
Raju, a staff member, informed the media that the robbery occurred during lunchtime while some employees were out eating. “Four of us left first and came back. The manager and others went out afterwards. The robbery happened while they were away,” he explained.
After receiving a text about the robbery, the manager hurried back to the store. “He attempted to lock the front door to stop the robbers from escaping. All these actions were recorded on CCTV,” he continued.
Unfortunately, the robbers broke through the door and fired at the manager.
“After firing, they quickly stopped gathering jewellery and fled the scene. The manager narrowly escaped as he retreated,” Raju said.
Before the manager returned, the robbers took their time looting the jewellery.
“They threatened us at gunpoint and executed the robbery fearlessly. One of our staff was compelled to fill bags with jewellery under gunpoint,” he added.
According to Raju, the robbers spoke in Hindi and instructed the staff to comply. “Upon entering, they ordered us to sit down, repeatedly saying ‘baith, baith’ (sit, sit). I initially resisted, and they attempted to attack me with the gun. Given the presence of customers and children, we chose not to resist further,” he stated.
He noted that customers in the showroom were also petrified. “Many customers were adorned with gold jewellery. They were terrified for both their lives and their valuables,” he said.
Raju mentioned that if the manager hadn’t returned promptly, the robbers would have made off with the entire inventory. He also added that management had spotted the incident on CCTV from a remote location and alerted the manager, Asgar, who then rushed to the scene and secured the door from the outside.
Meanwhile, H.C. Mahadevappa, the Minister for Social Welfare and Mysuru District In-Charge, commented in Bengaluru on Monday that no significant leads regarding the suspects had been obtained yet. “The police are working on gathering evidence. One incident does not necessarily indicate a rise in crime rates,” he remarked.
The minister stated that the robbery took place on a main road and assured that measures would be implemented to avert future occurrences. “The Superintendent of Police has briefed me about the case, and appropriate actions will be initiated,” he confirmed.
Superintendent of Police N. Vishnuvardhana, Inspector General of Police M.B. Boralinagayya, and fingerprint technicians visited the site as part of the investigation. A case has been filed at the Hunsur police station.
