Bhopal, Feb 21 (NationPress) AICC General Secretary and Madhya Pradesh Congress in-charge, Harish Chaudhary, expressed on Saturday that the anticipated trade agreement between the U.S. and India is poised to significantly affect the agriculture sector, potentially creating a perilous environment for the farmers.
Referencing the U.S. food supply embargo from 1965 to 1971, the Congress leader highlighted that history has already shown the detrimental effects on the nation's landscape.
He pointed out that following those drastic consequences, India managed to achieve self-sufficiency through the Green Revolution and cautioned that the proposed trade agreement could instigate similarly hazardous situations in the country.
Importing soybeans from the U.S. could severely harm the livelihoods of local farmers and small traders, especially in Madhya Pradesh.
“Although India is self-sufficient in cotton, importing it from the U.S. would directly affect the earnings and consumption of Indian farmers,” Chaudhary asserted during a press briefing at the Congress office in Bhopal on Saturday.
This statement followed a meeting with state Congress leaders aimed at preparing for an extensive farmers' conference scheduled in Bhopal, which will feature Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi on February 24.

“A Kisan Mahapanchayat is set to occur in Bhopal on February 24, where Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi will be present. Thousands of farmers are expected to join the Mahapanchayat,” Patwari stated.
