In 2024, Assam CM Reports Over 900,000 Aadhaar Biometrics Unlocked

Guwahati, Jan 1 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Tuesday that more than 900,000 individuals in the state were able to obtain their Aadhaar cards this year, with their biometrics being locked during the update of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The Chief Minister emphasized that this move would facilitate these 900,000 individuals in accessing all government services effortlessly.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the BJP's double-engine government at both the Centre and state levels in advancing Assam's development.
Sarma remarked, “The Double Engine Government in Delhi and Dispur is dedicated to promoting the growth and prosperity of Assam's citizens. With the intervention of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the proactive measures of Shri Amit Shah, over 900,000 residents of Assam had their Aadhaar biometrics unlocked this year, enabling them to access government services and benefits without difficulties.”
Previously, Sarma mentioned, “There were over 900,000 individuals in Assam who could not obtain Aadhaar cards due to the locking of their biometrics during the NRC update. These individuals encountered challenges in receiving scholarships and other government benefits. We established a cabinet sub-committee to investigate this issue.”
According to the Chief Minister, the cabinet sub-committee found no correlation between the Aadhaar card and the NRC, and recommended that the 900,000 individuals in the state should be issued Aadhaar cards.
“Recognizing the hardships faced by these citizens, we approached the central government, and after two years of ongoing discussions, the Centre has resolved to issue them Aadhaar cards. The UIDAI authority has also been duly informed,” he stated, adding that 935,642 individuals would receive their Aadhaar cards.
Sarma confirmed that this development will provide significant relief to these individuals, allowing them to easily access scholarships and other government schemes in the near future.
