Incidents in Parbhani and Beed Diminish the Progressive Image of Maharashtra: Nana Patole

Nagpur, Dec 20 (NationPress) The State Congress President Nana Patole on Thursday stated that the violation of the Constitution in Parbhani and the murder of a sarpanch in Beed district have negatively impacted the reputation of progressive Maharashtra and the legacy of its saints.
These occurrences seem to be a move to obliterate the principles of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Jyotirao Phule, and B.R. Ambedkar, Patole remarked in the Assembly.
The demise of Somnath Suryawanshi due to police violence in Parbhani is tantamount to murder, he emphasized.
During a discussion under Rule 101 regarding the events in Parbhani and Beed districts, Patole criticized the Mahayuti government, asserting the need to eradicate politically-supported criminal influence in Maharashtra.
"In the two-and-a-half years of the BJP-led alliance, there has been an attempt to cover up criminal activities. For example, in Beed, Valmik Karad, who faces serious charges including Section 302 (murder), was granted police protection. Who authorized this protection, and why?" he questioned.
"A shootout took place in Parli involving Andhale and Geete, leading to Geete's death. Valmik Karad is said to be connected to this incident. At the time, Police Inspector Mahajan and Police Sub-Inspector Patil were assigned to the area. Similarly, in Kej, Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh was killed, with the same officers stationed there. Are police transfers occurring under Valmik Karad's orders? The incident in Beed is very serious and appears to have political backing, with rumors hinting at a Minister's involvement. Such a minister must be removed from the Cabinet," he asserted.
"The incident in Parbhani is reminiscent of the Bhima Koregaon violence. The day following the incident, hundreds took to the streets, and shops were closed. Had the police acted appropriately right away, the aftermath could have been averted. Instead, the police conducted a combing operation and brutally assaulted innocent individuals, worse than animals. Who commanded this cane charge? Was the Parbhani incident state-sponsored? These are urgent questions. Innocent individuals have been wrongfully charged. Somnath Suryawanshi, who was recording the police's cane charge, was arrested, brutally beaten in custody, and killed by the police. However, the government has not held a single officer accountable," Patole claimed.
The Congress leader alleged that in Beed district, under Karad's influence, 200 false cases were registered in just two days.
"Who actually governs the administration—the government or criminals? How can such disorder exist in the state despite having a competent Chief Minister? A gangster dominates Beed; who is their 'master'? This criminal influence must cease, and Maharashtra must uphold the values of Shivaji, Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar," Patole stated.
