Maharashtra Opposition Walks Out Over Death of Dalit Youth in Parbhani and Sarpanch Murder in Beed

Nagpur, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Opposition staged a walkout in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, claiming that the state government was not taking the necessary actions regarding the death of a Dalit youth following the desecration of the Constitution in Parbhani and the murder of a sarpanch from Beed district.

Members of the Opposition, including Nana Patole, Nitin Raut, and Sandeep Kshirsagar, expressed their outrage over the circumstances surrounding the Dalit youth's death in Parbhani and the daylight murder of the Beed sarpanch.

BJP legislator from Kej constituency in Beed, Namita Mundada, echoed the sentiments of the Opposition regarding her Assembly segment's sarpanch's murder, stating that there is significant anger among local residents.

She called on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was present in the Assembly, to take immediate action to apprehend the individuals responsible for this crime.

Previously, Congress legislator Nitin Raut urged Speaker Rahul Narwekar to allow him to speak about the death of the Dalit youth in Parbhani following the Constitution's desecration.

He mentioned that one of the protestors suffered a heart attack, leading to police filing a complaint against him.

Raut criticized the police and district administration for their management of the situation, alleging targeting of the Dalit community.

He demanded that the Assembly discuss this issue on Tuesday.

The Speaker responded that a discussion was already scheduled under rule 101 for Wednesday due to the seriousness of the incident.

However, the Opposition was dissatisfied with the Speaker’s response and insisted on an immediate discussion.

Congress legislator Nana Patole, who had raised concerns regarding the violence in Parbhani on Monday, reiterated that the Assembly should debate the issue today.

He asserted that the Dalit youth was allegedly killed during a police lathi-charge.

Furthermore, he accused the police of launching a combing operation four hours post-violence.

“The law and order situation throughout the state will worsen if the government does not take action against those responsible and assure residents of Parbhani that law and order will be restored,” he stated.

The Speaker reiterated that the debate would occur on Wednesday.

NCP(SP) legislator Sandeep Kshirsagar brought up the assassination of the sarpanch from Beed district and claimed that one of the assailants remains at large.

He demanded that the authorities arrest the murderers and file a murder charge.

Kshirsagar informed the Chief Minister that the current case is filed under extortion. He warned that residents of Beed would soon organize a protest if action is not taken against Walmiki Karad, who is allegedly involved in the sarpanch's murder.

The Opposition persistently urged the Speaker to prioritize the issues from Parbhani and Beed for discussion on Tuesday, yet the Speaker dismissed their requests.

Consequently, Patole declared that the Opposition was walking out due to the government's lack of seriousness.

He also announced that Congress legislators would boycott the Assembly proceedings for the day.

Earlier, the Opposition had protested at the entrance of the state legislature concerning the issues in Parbhani and Beed.
