Mumbai, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Congress has demanded the termination of the police officer responsible for the murder of Somnath Suryavanshi in Parbhani and the initiation of legal proceedings against him.

The party also called for rigorous action against the culprits involved in the killing of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh from Beed district.

Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole stated that both the Parbhani and Beed incidents led to tragic losses of lives, with police being implicated.

He emphasized that it is clear that Somnath Suryavanshi, a follower of Ambedkar, was murdered as a result of police brutality in Parbhani. Despite this, the government has failed to take decisive action against the officers involved.

Patole pointed out that following a violation of the Constitution, a combing operation was executed in Parbhani, during which innocent individuals suffered brutal treatment.

“Who sanctioned this combing operation? Were the orders issued by the Ministry or the Director General of Police's office? A comprehensive investigation is necessary, and strict measures should be taken against the officers who executed the operation and those who authorized it,” he demanded.

He further mentioned that the post-mortem report corroborated that the educated young man, Somnath Suryavanshi, succumbed to injuries inflicted by police violence. Yet, the state government continues to protect the implicated officers.

“Chief Minister Fadnavis misled the assembly during the Nagpur session by falsely asserting that Suryavanshi died due to asthma. The government is merely suspending the implicated officers. If the police are not accountable for Suryavanshi's death, then why are they being suspended? Suspension alone is insufficient; the involved police officer must face dismissal,” he stated.

Additionally, Patole revealed that Congress plans to file a privilege motion against the Chief Minister for providing misleading information in the Assembly.

Noting the grave nature of the murders of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in Beed and Somnath Suryavanshi in Parbhani, Patole asserted that the government is delaying action in both cases.

“In the Beed incident, BJP MLA Suresh Dhas makes daily sensational allegations, yet the government remains inactive. This indicates a calculated strategy. Now, in the Parbhani case, Dhas is advocating for the police's exoneration. This duplicity is not only Dhas’s but also the government’s. The government is utilizing Dhas as a distraction from the real issues,” he alleged.

Addressing the issue of corruption in the agriculture sector, Patole accused the MahaYuti government of setting new records in corruption.

He claimed that vast sums intended for farmers were misappropriated, asserting that whether regarding the procurement of cotton bags or nano urea, farmers' schemes exist only on paper.

He argued that despite the implementation of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for farmer initiatives, the agriculture department sidestepped it and engaged in fraudulent activities.

“The corruption within the department implicates not just officials and the agriculture minister but also the previous Chief Minister and the state government,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, Patole led a group of Anganwadi workers to meet Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, to present their demands and grievances.

The delegation requested the LoP to raise their concerns in Parliament to seek justice.

“The LoP assured us that our issues would be addressed to pursue a resolution,” Patole concluded.
