New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated on Wednesday that a bilateral free trade agreement between India and New Zealand will significantly enhance trade and investment connections, sending a powerful message globally about the growing closeness of the two nations.
In a press conference alongside New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in Auckland, Goyal detailed how New Zealand can capitalize on India's vast market and how India can benefit from the innovative advancements in New Zealand.
He emphasized the potential for increased collaboration in various sectors, including maritime, aerospace, defence, education, sports, and tourism, aiming to broaden the partnership between the two nations.
“I express my gratitude for the guidance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon as we negotiate a mutually advantageous trade agreement for the prosperity of our peoples and businesses,” Goyal remarked in a post on X.
The minister shared that he is visiting New Zealand with the largest delegation from India ever, highlighting the significant alignment in perspectives and dedication from both sides.
“We are committed to working together towards a brighter future for both New Zealand and India, creating new business opportunities, generating jobs, and promoting economic development as our core philosophy focuses on inclusive and sustainable growth,” he stated.
He pointed out that India's journey from the fragile five to the top five has been marked by an unwavering focus on simplifying business operations, attracting investments by rolling out the red carpet, and reducing bureaucratic hurdles, making it easier to operate in India with fewer compliance requirements and lighter tax obligations.
“We have consistently lowered taxes, both direct and indirect, by minimizing paperwork and eliminating the threat of criminalization of minor infractions,” Goyal added.
Goyal, along with PM Luxon and Trade Minister Todd McClay, also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Auckland.
