New Delhi, May 27 (NationPress) In a significant advancement towards Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to the Execution Model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program on Tuesday.
This clearance represents a pivotal moment in India's objective to join an exclusive group of nations capable of designing and manufacturing their own fleet of next-generation combat aircraft.
The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will spearhead the project, as stated by the Defence Ministry in a recent press release.
“In a crucial effort to bolster India’s indigenous defence capabilities and cultivate a strong domestic aerospace industrial ecosystem, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has endorsed the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Programme Execution Model. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) will execute the program in collaboration with industry partners,” the Ministry elaborated.
The ADA, a specialized branch of the DRDO established to manage the development of India’s Light Combat Aircraft program, will lead this initiative in partnership with private sector players. An Expression of Interest (EoI) for the AMCA Development Phase is expected to be announced shortly.
“Bidding for the project will be open to both private and public sector organizations, whether independently or as joint ventures or consortia. All bidders must be Indian companies compliant with national laws and regulations,” the Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported.
The AMCA, regarded as India’s response to fifth-generation air superiority, is set to significantly enhance atmanirbharata in the defence arena and represent a key element of India’s evolving defence capabilities.
As a fifth-generation stealth multirole fighter equipped with advanced technology, it is designed for operation in all weather conditions.
With its low radar cross-section and supercruise capability, the AMCA is anticipated to succeed the frontline Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets.
Some sources indicate that mass production could commence by 2035.
