Additionally, the two parties deliberated on global and regional dynamics, as well as various multilateral topics.
According to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, “Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged in discussions with Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, who is visiting India for the BRICS Sherpa Meeting. They reviewed the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and explored further enhancements through people-to-people exchanges and addressing sensitive issues. The dialogue also included exchanges on the global and regional landscape alongside multilateral concerns.”
Ma Zhaoxu participated in the First BRICS Sherpa Meeting in New Delhi on Monday. As stated by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China aims to collaborate with India and other BRICS nations to maintain proper positioning, deepen practical cooperation, optimize operational mechanisms, enhance multilateral coordination, uphold global fairness and justice, and foster continual progress in BRICS collaboration.
During the Sherpa meeting, priorities for BRICS cooperation and preparations for the upcoming 18th BRICS Summit were officially launched.
Last month, EAM Jaishankar unveiled the website, theme, and logo for BRICS 2026, which is set to occur under India's leadership. Union Ministers of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita and Kirti Vardhan Singh, were also in attendance.
BRICS unites 11 key emerging markets and developing nations: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and United Arab Emirates. It serves as a valuable platform for dialogue and collaboration on pressing global and regional issues, as well as matters of international political and economic governance.
The BRICS logo for India's leadership combines tradition with modernity, showcasing the vibrant colors of all member countries, symbolizing their shared strength and unity. The central “Namaste” gesture reflects India’s essence of warmth, respect, and cooperative spirit.
The theme for India's BRICS chairmanship, ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’, encapsulates a people-centric and humanity-first approach as articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister during the 2025 Rio Summit, as stated in the announcement.
