New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) The sixth iteration of the Joint Military Exercise Dharma Guardian, involving India and Japan, is set to take place at Mount Fuji, Japan, from February 25 to March 9, as announced by the Indian Army on Sunday.
The objective of this exercise is to improve interoperability between the two military forces while engaging in joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations under a UN mandate, according to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army) in a social media update.
“Following the successful visit of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) to Japan from October 14 to 17, 2024, Exercise Dharma Guardian 2025 aims to further bolster the bilateral defence cooperation between India and Japan,” it stated.
Previously, on February 11, special forces from India and Egypt commenced the 'Cyclone III' exercise at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. An official noted that this exercise will conclude on February 23.
“The 'Cyclone' exercise is an annual event held alternately in India and Egypt. The last session took place in Egypt in January 2024,” the official added.
The Indian contingent consists of 25 personnel from two Special Forces Battalions. The Egyptian contingent also comprises 25 personnel represented by the Special Forces Group and Task Force of the Egyptian Special Forces.
The intent of the exercise is to strengthen the military-to-military ties between both nations through improved interoperability, collaboration, and a mutual exchange of special operations tactics.
“The drill will emphasize a high level of physical fitness, collaborative planning, and tactical drills. Activities during the exercise will include advanced special forces skills and various tactics, techniques, and procedures in line with the current operational paradigm,” the official explained.
He noted that the exercise will culminate with a 48-hour validation phase to rehearse tactical drills for counterterrorism operations in desert and semi-desert environments.
“It will also showcase indigenous military equipment and provide an overview of the defence manufacturing sector for the Egyptian participants,” the official concluded.
The exercise will facilitate the sharing of best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting tactical operations.
