India Set to Achieve One Billion Voters: CEC Rajiv Kumar

New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) Rajiv Kumar declared on Tuesday that India is on the verge of becoming a nation with one billion registered voters, marking the largest voter demographic globally.

During a press conference at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan in the capital, CEC Rajiv Kumar remarked, "The year 2024 is pivotal on a global scale, as nearly two-thirds of the democratic world will be heading to the polls."

He emphasized India's electoral achievements in 2024, stating, "We have held elections across eight states and Union Territories, in addition to the general elections, breaking several records. These include record voter turnout, violence-free elections, significant seizures, and increased public participation, particularly among women."

Expressing a positive outlook for democracy, Kumar said, "I anticipate that democracy will continue to advance in this manner."

The CEC shared that India is approaching a remarkable achievement, announcing, "Our electoral rolls released yesterday, along with those from four more states today, indicate that we are surpassing 99 crore registered voters. Shortly, we will become a nation with one billion voters, the highest in the world."

Highlighting the growing involvement of women, CEC Kumar pointed out, "The number of women registered as voters will exceed 48 crore in this Special Summary Revision (SSR). This is a significant indicator of women's empowerment."

Alongside Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Kumar also announced the schedule for the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections.

Delhi is set to vote on February 5, with results expected on February 8.

The Gazette Notification will be issued on January 10, with the deadline for nominations being January 17, nomination scrutiny on January 18, and the last date for withdrawing candidatures on January 20.

Discussing the importance of Delhi, the CEC stated, "Delhi represents diversity, with individuals from various states and cultures living here. This diversity amplifies the responsibility of Delhi residents. I hope 'Dilli Dil Se Vote Karegi' (Delhi will vote from the heart)."
