New Delhi, Aug 14 (NationPress) The country's automobile sales exhibited a consistent performance in July this year, across all categories including passenger vehicles (cars and utility vehicles), two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and quadricycles, totaling over 26.98 lakh units during the month, as per a statement from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released on Thursday.

The two-wheeler segment saw an increase of 8.7 percent in July 2025 compared to July 2024, with sales exceeding 15.67 lakh units. Scooter sales rose by 16.2 percent to 6,43,169 units in July versus 5,53,642 units in the same month last year. Similarly, motorcycle sales increased by 4.7 percent to 8,90,107 units during the month compared to 8,50,489 in July 2024.

The three-wheeler segment achieved its highest-ever July sales at 0.69 lakh units, marking a growth of 17.5 percent compared to the previous year.

Nonetheless, the overall sentiment in the passenger vehicle segment, which includes cars and utility vehicles, has remained somewhat muted, showing a slight decline of (-)0.2 percent at 3.41 lakh units in July, relative to the same month last year, according to the SIAM statement.

“All vehicle segments demonstrated stable performance in July 2025, compared to July 2024. With the festive season commencing with Onam festivities later in August, the Indian auto industry holds a cautious optimism for demand to rise in the upcoming months,” stated SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon.

“In terms of exports, the total passenger vehicle exports in July grew by 8.7 percent to approximately 67,292 units compared to 61,929 units in July last year.

Total two-wheeler exports surged by 33.5 percent to 4,33,873 units in July this year against 3,24,908 units in the corresponding month last year.

Furthermore, passenger vehicles recorded their highest-ever exports in Q1 of 2025-26 at 2.04 lakh units, showing a growth of 13.2 percent compared to Q1 of 2024-25, according to SIAM data.

The growth in exports for this segment was fueled by stable demand in most markets, with strong sales in the Middle East and Latin America. Revitalization in neighboring markets like Sri Lanka and Nepal, increasing demand from Japan, and growing exports under FTAs like Australia also contributed to this overall growth, the statement highlighted.

Exports of two-wheelers soared to 1.14 million units with a robust growth of 23.2 percent in Q1 of 2025-26 compared to the same quarter last year. This growth was driven by recovery in neighboring markets and sustained upward momentum in key export regions.

Point of View

We recognize the resilience of the Indian automobile industry amid fluctuating market dynamics. While the buoyancy in two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales reflects consumer confidence, the subdued passenger vehicle segment calls for strategic insights. We stand united with the nation in anticipating a resurgence in demand as festive celebrations approach.
