India's First Robotic System Achieves Telesurgeries Across 286 Km

New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) The SSI Mantra, a surgical robotic system developed in India, has achieved a remarkable feat by executing two robotic cardiac surgeries via telesurgery covering a distance of 286 kilometers.

The surgeries were conducted remotely by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava from Gurugram to Manipal Hospital Jaipur, utilizing the SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System.

The Telerobotic-assisted Internal Mammary Artery Harvesting procedure was successfully completed in a swift 58 minutes, showcasing remarkable precision with a minimal latency of only 35-40 milliseconds (1/20th of a second).

This pioneering procedure was succeeded by another historic achievement—a robotic beating heart totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass (TECAB), recognized as one of the most intricate cardiac surgical procedures. This, too, was performed via telesurgery from Gurugram to Jaipur, maintaining an impressive latency of merely 40 milliseconds.

“We are immensely excited to have elevated the surgical capabilities to benefit humanity, particularly in regions where it is most crucial. By facilitating telesurgery, we can eliminate barriers to accessing medical expertise and provide top-tier healthcare, irrespective of geographical limitations. For a nation like India, with its extensive rural population and notable healthcare inequalities, this innovation is revolutionary,” expressed Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations.

“This groundbreaking inter-state robotic cardiac telesurgery signifies a substantial advancement in enhancing patient care through technological innovation. The remote robotic-assisted CABG performed on an elderly patient from Jaipur highlights how technology is bridging geographical divides to deliver precise and prompt medical interventions,” remarked Dr. Lalit Malik, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Manipal Hospital, Jaipur.

Designed by SS Innovations, the SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System is the sole robotic system globally to have received regulatory endorsement for telesurgery and tele-proctoring.

The recent sanction of the SSI Mantra 3 by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) paves the way for remote surgeries and medical education, facilitating collaboration among healthcare professionals across various locations.
