New Delhi, Aug 11 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Monday that 21st-century India is on a trajectory to become 'viksit' (developed) while addressing the needs of all segments of society, ranging from parliamentarians to the underprivileged.
This announcement came during the unveiling of 184 newly built Type-VII multi-storey residences for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi.
During his address, PM Modi remarked, "The India of the 21st century is as eager to become 'viksit' as it is sensitive. Today, the nation constructs Kartavya Path and Kartavya Bhavan, fulfilling its responsibility of providing piped water to millions of citizens."
"As we create new homes for our lawmakers, we also celebrate 'grah pravesh' (house warming) for the less fortunate through the PM Awas Yojana. While new residences for MPs are being built, hundreds of new medical colleges are also under construction. The advantages of these initiatives are benefiting every class and community," he added.
Commending the environmentally friendly approach taken in the construction of the new housing complex for parliamentarians, the Prime Minister emphasized that this aligns with the government's "pro-environment and future-safe initiatives", stating that the country is "constantly progressing" in sustainable development.
The newly constructed flats, as per the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), include "environmentally sustainable" features that aim to enhance energy conservation, promote renewable energy generation, and ensure efficient waste management.
Designed with a focus on sustainability, these flats utilize green technology, meet GRIHA 3-star rating standards, and adhere to the National Building Code (NBC) 2016, according to the PMO's statement.
PM Modi also urged parliamentarians from various regions to foster unity and celebrate cultural diversity.
"I encourage you all to occasionally celebrate the regional festivals from different parts of the country, as MPs from across India will reside in this complex. Invite people from your regions to join in these celebrations and learn various languages and dialects from one another," he remarked.
Emphasizing the significance of cleanliness, the Prime Minister stated, "I hope we will work together as a team, making our efforts a role model for the nation. I also request the ministry and your housing committee to consider organizing cleanliness competitions among the various MP housing complexes two or three times a year. We could then announce which block is the cleanest, and after a year, determine the best and worst."
The PMO highlighted that this project was initiated to tackle the shortage of suitable housing for MPs. With limited land availability, vertical housing has been prioritized to optimize land use and minimize maintenance expenses.
Each unit covers approximately 5,000 square feet of carpet area, providing space for both residential and professional use. The flats consist of five rooms, two guest rooms, two servant rooms, and designated office areas.
"Upon my first visit to these flats... I was surprised by their size. I doubt you will fill all the rooms. I hope you utilize them well and that your personal and professional lives thrive here," he concluded.
