New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) India reiterated its well-established position on Kashmir, emphasizing that there is no room for any third-party involvement or mediation.
Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), addressed the matter in response to remarks made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly.
"Our stance on Kashmir is unequivocal. Everyone is aware of our position on Kashmir over the past several years," he stated during a weekly media briefing.
Additionally, the MEA spokesperson conveyed India’s support for a comprehensive and lasting solution for North Cyprus in line with the United Nations framework.
"Concerning North Cyprus, our External Affairs Minister had a meeting with the Cyprus Foreign Minister, where they discussed the issue. The External Affairs Minister reaffirmed India's commitment to a comprehensive and lasting resolution in accordance with the established UN framework," he explained.
On Wednesday, EAM Jaishankar engaged with Cyprus counterpart Constantinos Kombos during the 80th session of the UNGA, reaffirming support for a conclusive and lasting resolution regarding Cyprus.
"It was a pleasure to meet FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations since PM Narendra Modi's successful visit. We reaffirmed support for a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the Cyprus Question, consistent with the agreed UN framework and relevant UNSC resolutions. I look forward to welcoming him in India soon," Jaishankar remarked in a post on X.
Kombos expressed his appreciation for India's enduring support regarding the Cyprus issue and mentioned his anticipation for visiting India.
In a post on X, the Cyprus FM stated, "New York -- It is always a distinct pleasure to meet with India’s Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar. Our discussions revolved around advancing the Cyprus-India strategic partnership, pertinent international issues, and the priorities for the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. I am grateful for India's long-standing principled support on the Cyprus Issue and its commitment to upholding international law. I look forward to my visit to India soon."
