New Delhi, July 8 (NationPress) Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri announced his anticipation for the upcoming Urja Varta 2025 gathering at Bharat Mandapam on July 17, leading up to India’s Round X of exploration and production bidding—the most significant globally for oil and gas blocks.
The oil and gas blocks presented under the Open Acreage Licensing Programme (OALP) have already attracted interest from both international and domestic energy firms. According to the minister, Round X is poised to establish new standards for investment and participation.
The Petroleum Ministry has requested input on the Draft Petroleum & Natural Gas Rules, Model Revenue Sharing Contract (MRSC), and Petroleum Lease ahead of July 17, 2025, as part of the initiative to expedite oil & gas development. These reforms are designed to foster exploration and production in the sector.
“These modifications aim to enhance the ease of doing business for oil & gas exploration and production (E&P) operators, developed after comprehensive stakeholder consultations,” Puri elaborated in a recent post on X.
The Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act of 1948 was amended in March 2025, and new PNG regulations emerged within three months ahead of OALP Round X, which is the largest exploration and production bidding round worldwide, aligning with PM Modi’s vision for the industry.
To boost transparency and stakeholder involvement, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has opened the floor for public commentary on the Draft Petroleum & Natural Gas Rules, Model Revenue Sharing Contract (MRSC), and Petroleum Lease documents. Stakeholders can send their feedback to png-rules@dghindia.gov.in before July 17, 2025.
“This is an ideal moment for entrepreneurs and industry leaders to explore oil and gas opportunities in India. Investing in India’s energy future has never been more straightforward, swift, or lucrative,” Puri stated.
