New Delhi, Aug 12 (NationPress) – In a groundbreaking event, India witnessed its largest-ever school-based tinkering initiative as over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) engaged more than 4 lakh students nationwide in a collaborative effort to create and innovate in real-time, as stated by Niti Aayog on Tuesday.

The ‘Mega Tinkering Day 2025’ was conducted virtually across schools in 35 states and union territories under the auspices of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).

During this event, a remarkable 4,73,350 students from 9467 ATL-equipped schools participated in a hands-on project where they designed and constructed a DIY vacuum cleaner using readily available materials from their labs.

The students followed a detailed instructional session streamed online, which enabled them to grasp scientific principles and collaborate seamlessly, regardless of their locations.

Deepak Bagla, Mission Director at Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, remarked, “Mega Tinkering Day 2025 is a monumental testament to the strength of grassroots innovation.” He emphasized that this event aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat, where innovation and youth are pivotal in driving national transformation.

“In this live event, over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs synchronized their efforts in a creative hour, allowing countless students across India to build, learn, and innovate collectively. No other nation has galvanized innovation in its school ecosystem to this extent,” Bagla added.

Students hailed from diverse regions, including the northernmost areas like Leh, Ladakh, and Kargil, Kashmir, remote villages in Aspirational Districts like Virudhunagar, the Northeastern states of Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and southern locales like Kanniyakumari, along with western regions such as Bhuj and Kutchh.

“This is India’s moment to lead and demonstrate how empowered young minds can devise solutions not only for our nation but for the globe. The future is being crafted in our classrooms today,” Bagla stated.

The AIM team also participated by constructing a vacuum cleaner.

Since its inception, AIM has set up over 10,000 ATLs in schools, offering students access to tools like 3D printers, robotics kits, IoT devices, and more. These labs provide middle- to high-school students with practical exposure to cutting-edge technologies and encourage real-world problem-solving skills.
