Kolkata, April 26 (NationPress) In a significant crackdown, the Jalpaiguri district police have dismantled a substantial Indian Premier League (IPL) betting network in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, leading to the arrest of two individuals, as reported by authorities.

This operation occurred just hours before the much-anticipated IPL clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on Saturday evening.

The detained individuals have been identified as Milan Sen (28) and Mrinmoy Sen (21).

They were conducting their operations from a cyber cafe situated in the Senpara locality of Jalpaiguri town.

Law enforcement officials seized two smartphones, a personal computer, and a motorcycle during the operation.

Notably, Milan also works as a data entry operator at Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital.

Jalpaiguri District Police Superintendent Umesh Khandelwal confirmed the arrests, indicating that police received intelligence about IPL betting activities facilitated via mobile applications from this cyber cafe.

Following this tip-off, local police executed a surprise raid and apprehended the suspects in the act, Khandelwal reported.

In subsequent questioning at the cyber cafe, both Milan and Mrinmoy confessed to their roles in the betting operation and disclosed that they had additional associates involved across various regions of West Bengal.

Further examination of the confiscated mobile devices and computer corroborated their statements.

The suspects face charges under multiple sub-sections of Section 318 (punishment for cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and several provisions of the Public Gambling Act, 1867.

They are scheduled to be presented in a lower court later today.

The trend of utilizing cyber cafes for IPL betting has surged in West Bengal.

Earlier this month, police in Kolkata uncovered a similar operation at a cyber cafe where mobile apps were employed for placing bets.

Additionally, another betting racket was dismantled in Farakka, Murshidabad district in the last week of March this year.
