Panaji, April 22 (NationPress) Three bookmakers from Madhya Pradesh engaged in betting on a T-20 IPL cricket match were apprehended in Calangute, Goa, along with digital devices and mobile phones valued at Rs 1.10 lakh, according to an official report on Tuesday.
The three suspects, who were taking bets online for the match between Kolkata Night Riders and Gujarat Titans on Monday, have been identified as Ankit Rathore (34) from Bhopal; Badal (32) from Sagar; and Ajay (32) from Sagar, as stated by the police.
The Calangute Police initiated a case against these individuals following a raid that took place just after midnight on Monday.
The operation occurred between 12:35 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. at Flat No. 203, Arsh’s Nest, Saldana Kayle Garden, Baga Calangute Bardez Goa, as reported by the police.
During the raid, law enforcement seized a laptop and seven mobile phones worth Rs 1.10 lakh, according to the official.
The suspects have been charged under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman, and Diu Public Gambling Act (GDDPG Act).
Authorities are currently working to uncover the broader network associated with this racket, with an investigation led by Superintendent of Police, North Porvorim, Akshat Kaushal, and assisted by Inspector Paresh Naik and sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Vishwesh Karpe, who are gathering further information.
This betting incident emerges shortly after a similar case was exposed by the Crime Branch in Panaji earlier this month.
A police spokesperson noted that the Crime Branch conducted a raid on an apartment in the Porvorim area on April 4, leading to the detention of three individuals from Telangana.
The apprehended individuals were identified as Tigulla Shrinivas (39), Gaddala Kiran Kumar (37), and Annathapuram Shravankumar Chary (36), who were placing bets on the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians.
Authorities reported seizing mobile phones, a laptop, and gaming accessories valued at Rs 1.80 lakh from these individuals.
