New Delhi, Nov 6 (NationPress) The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, extended his congratulations to Barry Faure following his recent appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora for the Republic of Seychelles. He expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Faure in enhancing the bilateral relationship.
"I congratulate Barry Faure on his new role as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora for Seychelles. I look forward to collaborating to strengthen the ties between India and Seychelles," EAM Jaishankar shared on X.
In a related event, Patrick Herminie was inaugurated as the sixth President of Seychelles during a national ceremony at Unity Stadium in October. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan represented India at the swearing-in ceremony.
During this official visit, Vice President Radhakrishnan engaged with Herminie at the State House in Victoria, discussing methods to enhance bilateral cooperation. He also conveyed warm regards to President Herminie on behalf of the Government and people of India.
Both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity within the Indian Ocean Region and the Global South, as reported by the Vice President's office.
Additionally, Radhakrishnan held discussions with Seychelles Vice President Sebastien Pillay at the State House, focusing on various facets of cooperation between the two nations.

India and Seychelles established diplomatic relations following Seychelles' independence in 1976. On June 29, 1976, an Indian Naval Ship, INS Nilgiri, participated in the Independence Day celebrations. The Indian Mission in Seychelles was set up in 1979 in Victoria, with the first resident High Commissioner appointed in 1987, and Seychelles inaugurated its resident mission in New Delhi in 2008.
