New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and BJP MLA, Sunil Sharma, expressed his support on Thursday for External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar's assertion that the 'Kashmir issue will be resolved when the unlawfully occupied area by Pakistan is reclaimed'.
Jaishankar delivered these remarks during a discussion titled 'India’s Rise and Role in the World' at the esteemed Chatham House think tank in London.
LoP Sunil Sharma stated that the EAM was correct in highlighting that there are no issues regarding this part of Kashmir.
Sharma criticized the parties in J&K whose members have brought up the topic of negotiations with Pakistan in the Assembly.
In an interview with IANS, Sharma remarked, 'Jaishankar ji has accurately pointed out that there is no issue with this part of Kashmir; the genuine concern is PoK. Some members in this Assembly discuss it, but the principal concern resides in PoK.'
He noted that following the abrogation of Article 370, significant progress has been made in the region, and GDP has risen, despite some individuals continuing to engage in such discussions. However, he emphasized that Kashmir and J&K as a whole are progressing.
EAM Jaishankar discussed the situation in Kashmir and the measures taken by the Indian government on Wednesday, such as the removal of Article 370, the revival of growth and economic activities, the establishment of social justice in Kashmir, and the successful conduct of elections with high voter turnout in the Union Territory.
He further stated that the only region of Jammu and Kashmir that remains illegally controlled by Pakistan is the last outstanding matter for achieving complete resolution of the issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
When questioned about the Kashmir issues, EAM Jaishankar responded: 'In Kashmir, we have done a commendable job addressing most concerns. The removal of Article 370 was the first step. Next, we focused on restoring growth and economic activity and ensuring social justice in Kashmir. Finally, we conducted elections with an impressive turnout. What remains is the reclamation of the unlawfully occupied part of Kashmir by Pakistan. Once that is achieved, I assure you, Kashmir will be resolved.'
