Jammu, Jan 26 (NationPress) A bomb threat received at the site of the principal Republic Day parade in J&K’s Jammu city has been confirmed as a hoax, according to officials on Sunday.
Just hours prior to the commencement of the Republic Day parade at the Maulana Azad Memorial (MAM) Stadium in Jammu, an email warning of a bomb was sent late Saturday evening. This led authorities to initiate a comprehensive search operation both inside and around the MAM Stadium early Sunday morning, which ultimately revealed the threat to be unfounded.
Officials noted that the threat was communicated via email to the official accounts of various government departments, including the secretary of higher education and the director of higher education late Saturday night.
The email instigated the deployment of multiple bomb disposal units to the stadium, which underwent a thorough inspection overseen by senior police officials throughout the night, with no incriminating evidence discovered.
A special team has been formed to track down and apprehend the individuals responsible for sending the email. J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is slated to hoist the national flag and receive a salute at the parade at the MAM Stadium, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as the chief guest.
Extensive security measures have been implemented to ensure safety at the Republic Day parade in J&K. This marks the first Republic Day celebration in the union territory since an elected government resumed office following peaceful Legislative Assembly elections. Both Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections took place in J&K last year, monitored by diplomats from various countries.
Meanwhile, in the Valley, the main divisional-level Republic Day parade is set to occur at the Bakshi Stadium, presided over by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary. Other ministers and District Development Council (DDC) chairpersons will participate in celebrations at various district headquarters.
