Jammu, Dec 15 (NationPress) Two individuals accused of assaulting a Police Sub-Inspector in Jammu have been apprehended, according to police reports from Monday.

Authorities successfully traced and detained the primary suspects involved in the attack on a Sub-Inspector in the Gurrah Morh locality of the city within a matter of hours.

"On the previous evening, Sub-Inspector Nitin Khajuria, the Investigating Officer at Police Station Bakshi Nagar, was ambushed and attacked by a group of assailants while fulfilling his duties. The perpetrators wielded a sharp weapon and brandished a firearm, resulting in injuries to the officer," stated a police representative. The injured officer was promptly transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for medical attention.

Police filed FIR No. 158/2025 at Police Station Bakshi Nagar under applicable legal provisions, forming multiple special teams to locate the suspects, the official explained.

"Utilizing technical surveillance and human intelligence, law enforcement tracked the suspects to the Nikki Tawi region. During an attempt to escape under the cover of night, two suspects, identified as Rishab and Munna, fell and incurred injuries. Both were apprehended at the scene and subsequently taken to GMC Jammu under police supervision for treatment," the official further added.

"Investigations are ongoing, with efforts being made to identify and capture the other two fugitives associated with the attack."

In a separate incident, authorities in Jammu apprehended a criminal who had been evading capture for nearly a year.

According to police, the detained individual, Mohammad Ayaz alias Shantoo from House number 160, Gujjar Nagar, Jammu, is a known affiliate of the Royal Singh gang and was wanted in FIR number 06/2025 filed under sections 109 and 351(2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

"The suspect had been on the run for approximately 11 months. Acting on reliable intelligence, a team from Police Post Residency Road, led by SI Aaqib Lateef under the guidance of SHO City, Inspector Shakti Devi, executed a swift operation to arrest the suspect at Hotel City Light in the Jewel area of Jammu," stated an official.

"The apprehended individual is a known repeat offender at Police Station Peermitha, involved in multiple severe criminal cases documented at various police stations across Jammu district from 2013 to 2015. These cases encompass offenses related to assault, attempted murder, rioting, arms act violations, and interference with public servants, among other serious crimes," the official detailed.

Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to Police Station City, where further investigations are in progress, and all legal protocols are being followed as mandated by law.
