Patna, April 7 (NationPress) In a significant achievement, the police in Gaya have apprehended infamous criminal Mohan Manjhi, who had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, this Tuesday.
His associate, Sonu Manjhi, was also captured during the operation. Both individuals had been evading law enforcement for an extended period.
Mohan Manjhi faces numerous severe charges, including murder, extortion, and infractions of the Arms Act.
Dharmendra Bharti, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) 2 for Gaya Sadar, hailed the arrest as a major win in the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the district.
Following instructions from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), police units had been executing an extensive search and verification initiative throughout the area.
During this initiative, they received intelligence indicating that the two suspects had returned from Kolkata and were en route to the Sarbadaha block in the district.
Acting on this tip-off, police teams initiated a focused operation near the Bodh Gaya intersection.
Upon being instructed to halt, the suspects attempted to escape, but police successfully pursued and apprehended them.
After their capture, both suspects were taken into custody for questioning.
During the interrogation, they admitted to their roles in the fatal shooting of a young man that occurred last year.
"Earlier, four other suspects connected to the case had been arrested while Mohan and Sonu Manjhi remained fugitives," Bharti stated.
"Mohan Manjhi has several serious cases registered against him, and we are continuing our operations to apprehend other fugitives associated with this case. The Mohan Manjhi gang was also implicated in arms trafficking within the region," he added.
Legal procedures are currently underway to place both detained individuals into judicial custody.
"Both accused were presented in the district court on Tuesday, which ordered their transfer to judicial custody," he mentioned.
The police reiterated their determination to uphold law and order and cautioned that rigorous actions will persist against criminals in the area.
