Patna, March 21 (NationPress) Infamous criminal Sonu Singh was apprehended following an encounter with the police in the Maner area of Patna district on Friday.
Acting on intelligence reports, a coordinated team comprising the Special Task Force and local police, under the leadership of Danapur ASP Bhanu Pratap Singh, conducted a raid in Suarmarwa village around 3 a.m.
When the police drew near, Singh attempted to escape, resulting in a pursuit and exchange of gunfire. The accused along with his associates opened fire at the police as they approached.
Attempting to flee while shooting at the police team, the accused were met with return fire.
Sharat R S, Patna City SP (West), confirmed the arrest, stating: "We received information regarding Sonu's hiding place in Suarmarwa village. Our team initiated a raid, and during the ensuing chase, shots were fired. In self-defense, our team also returned fire. Sonu suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and has been transported to PMCH hospital for treatment under police supervision."
Singh was among the top 10 wanted criminals in the district, facing numerous charges including murder, attempted murder, dacoity, and theft across various police stations in Patna district. He had been evading capture for an extended period.
Other criminals present at the scene managed to escape by using the cover of darkness.
Police units are currently working to locate the other absconding suspects.
Interrogations are ongoing to obtain insights into Singh's criminal operations and his gang's members.
He was implicated in the Dahi Gop murder case.
Dahi Gop, along with his associate Gorakh Rai, was shot dead on December 21, 2024, in Pethia Bazar under the Danapur cantonment area.
