Patna, March 26 (NationPress) A significant political uproar has emerged in Muzaffarpur following serious accusations made by Tejashwi Yadav concerning the death of a local individual during a police action.

In a recent post on social media platform X, Tejashwi Yadav asserted that in the Gaighat police station jurisdiction, a Sub-Inspector—reportedly under the influence of alcohol—entered the residence of farmer Jagatveer Rai and fatally shot him.

Describing the episode as a peak of lawlessness, he criticized the Nitish Kumar-led state government for its inaction against the implicated officer.

Tejashwi contended that the Bihar Police have been either incapable or disinclined to detain the Sub-Inspector, alleging that he is purportedly taking refuge under the protection of a powerful liquor mafia figure in Muzaffarpur.

He further indicated that political backing is obstructing any legal measures, questioning why no police operations have been initiated to capture the suspect.

In a twist to the controversy, Tejashwi highlighted an official notice from the Tirhut Range DIG’s office, which allegedly includes the name of Sub-Inspector Raja Singh (SHO, Gaighat) in a list of officers nominated for the “Veer Pashupatinath Medal” for outstanding service.

He pointed out the inconsistency—while the officer is embroiled in serious allegations, plans are underway to honor him at a ceremony scheduled for April 9, 2026.

The RJD leader launched a fierce critique of the police system, alleging widespread corruption and failure of accountability.

He warned that if prompt action is not executed and justice is not served, public dissent could escalate, holding the government and administration accountable for any subsequent unrest.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal has declared its commitment to fight for justice for the deceased Jagatveer Rai, heightening the political tension in Muzaffarpur.

Since the incident, the district has been experiencing significant public outrage and rising protests.

While the police department is reportedly advancing with preparations for the award distribution ceremony, opposition figures have vehemently criticized this action as insensitive and inappropriate given the circumstances.

Opposition leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav, have framed the situation as a broader issue of accountability and justice, asserting that honoring an officer under such serious allegations conveys a detrimental message.

As tensions continue to escalate, all eyes are on the state government led by Nitish Kumar—whether it will reconsider the list of awardees or proceed with the ceremony, potentially igniting further public outrage.
