Key Takeaways
Patna, April 16 (NationPress) A group from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) visited the Bihar Director General of Police, Vinay Kumar, on Thursday, demanding justice for Jagatveer Rai's family concerning a suspected homicide in Muzaffarpur district.
The six-member team, led by RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal, presented the case details and called for prompt and unbiased action.
This case involves the alleged murder of Jagatveer Rai, son of Bhola Rai, reportedly linked to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gaighat Police Station in Chornia village.
The RJD delegation also provided a letter to the DGP, which contained findings and insights collected by Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav during his site visit on March 25, 2026.
DGP Vinay Kumar confirmed receipt of the letter and assured the delegation that the case is being taken very seriously.
He stated that a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) had already assessed the firearm belonging to the accused SHO, and a murder case has been filed against him.
Moreover, the DGP indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with critical reports, including forensic evidence and corroborative data, still pending.
He reaffirmed the administration's dedication to delivering justice and ensuring that no perpetrator escapes accountability.
The delegation comprised Uday Narayan Chaudhary, National Vice President of RJD; Alakh Niranjan alias Binu Yadav, National General Secretary; Dr. Tanveer Hasan, State Vice President; Ranvijay Sahu, State Principal General Secretary; Niranjan Rai, former MLA from Gaighat Assembly constituency; Ramesh Gupta, District President, Muzaffarpur; and Mohd. Ejaz Ahmed, State Spokesperson.
The tragic incident unfolded in Chornia village under the jurisdiction of Gaighat police station in the third week of March this year when police attempted to apprehend a suspect in a case linked to the POCSO Act.
A violent confrontation erupted between the villagers and the police, resulting in injuries to several officers and damage to government vehicles.
During the turmoil, Jagatveer Rai was shot, leading to significant unrest in the area.
The victim’s family claims that the previous Station House Officer intentionally shot him.
Conversely, the police argue that the shooting occurred in self-defense amid a life-threatening mob attack.
