New Delhi, Sep 11 (NationPress) The Janata Dal (United) has vowed to conduct a swift and comprehensive investigation into the murder of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rajkumar Rai, commonly referred to as Allah Rai.
Allah Rai was tragically shot by two unidentified attackers in Patna on Wednesday.
In a statement to IANS, JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad emphasized, “No incident in Bihar will go unaddressed by the police. While the Opposition's concerns are understandable, we are dedicated to maintaining effective governance and a strong law enforcement system. The Bihar police will take decisive actions to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
RLD leader Malook Nagar suggested a possible political motive behind the attack.
“There are indications that certain leaders from the INDIA alliance might be implicated in this murder, especially with elections approaching. Nevertheless, the government stands firmly with the victim's family, and we pledge to conduct a transparent investigation. Those responsible will face consequences. This is not a time for conspiracies to garner sympathy — justice will be served,” he stated.
Conversely, Opposition MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav, criticized the Nitish Kumar administration sharply.
“Allah Rai was disabled, and despite that, he was murdered. His wife is also disabled. He merely operated a shop. This reflects the state of law and order in Bihar. The situation is utterly chaotic. The system has crumbled. While everyone focuses on the elections, ordinary citizens live in fear. There can be no expectation for free and fair elections under such circumstances,” he remarked to IANS.
The incident transpired in the Munnachak area of Chitragupta Nagar in Patna, just months before the significant state assembly elections. Sources indicated that Allah Rai was anticipated to contest in the upcoming elections from the Raghopur assembly constituency.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that a land dispute may have triggered this lethal attack, as Rai was involved in land-related activities.
Upon learning of the incident, a police team promptly transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors. Authorities retrieved six cartridges from the crime scene. CCTV footage captured the assailants fleeing, and efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend them, according to Patna Eastern SP Parichay Kumar.
