Jammu, March 25 (NationPress) Congress MLA, Irfan Hafiz Lone on Tuesday organized a protest outside the Assembly, calling for an end to the violence against innocent civilians in Palestine.

Lone held a placard that stated, "Innocent killings in Palestine are a murder of humanity".

He is the representative for the Wagoora-Kreeri constituency in Baramulla district within the 90-member J&K Legislative Assembly.

In a statement to IANS, he emphasized, “I have expressed this previously, and I maintain that, innocent killings are a murder of humanity.

“What we are witnessing in Palestine, where innocent children are being killed, is unequivocally that. Our nation has consistently opposed such acts of violence, and they must cease.

“We urge our country and the global community to come together to halt the killings of innocent individuals, regardless of location. We derive no satisfaction from the violence occurring there. My position is unequivocal—I am solely advocating for the cessation of killings of innocent children, women, and civilians in Palestine. Furthermore, I strongly believe that the killing of innocent people is a crime against humanity.”

Lone is among the six Congress MLAs who emerged victorious in the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

Congress and the National Conference (NC) formed an alliance for the elections. The NC refrained from fielding candidates against Congress nominees in the 2024 Assembly elections, except in Banihal and Nagrota constituencies, where both parties engaged in a friendly competition.

The NC secured 42 Assembly seats, while the BJP won 29, Congress six, PDP three, CPI(M) one, Peoples Conference (PC) one, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) one, and AAP one. Six seats were claimed by Independent candidates. Congress, CPI(M), and AAP provided external support to the NC government, while five of the six Independent candidates later allied with the NC.

The BJP secured all its 29 seats in the Jammu division and did not win any seats in the Valley.

Several prominent politicians, closely associated with the BJP, also faced defeat in the Valley, despite contesting as non-BJP candidates.
