Japan's LDP chief Takayuki Kobayashi meets Foreign Secy Misri, vows to deepen India-Japan ties

Takayuki Kobayashi, Chairperson of the Policy Research Council of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), met Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in New Delhi on Monday, 4 May, concluding a high-level India visit that saw the Japanese delegation hold wide-ranging talks with senior Indian officials. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that both sides reaffirmed the strategic importance of India-Japan relations and agreed to advance bilateral ties across domains of shared interest.

Key Meetings and Discussions

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal earlier in the day held talks with the Japanese delegation, focusing on strengthening bilateral trade and investment. Goyal said the discussions covered enhancing MSME partnerships and deepening collaboration in key sectors including automobiles, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing.

Goyal also highlighted the need to boost Indian exports and improve market access, reaffirming India's commitment to strengthening its business ecosystem. He pointed to future pathways under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and broader Indo-Pacific economic cooperation frameworks as vehicles for deeper engagement.
