Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 10 (NationPress) As India gears up for Independence Day, women from rural self-help groups (SHGs) in Jaunpur are playing a pivotal role in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative. Under the centrally funded National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), a total of 68 SHGs have embarked on the mission of crafting national flags in anticipation of the government's extensive flag-hoisting event set for August 13, 14, and 15.
The district has been assigned a target of producing seven lakh (700,000) flags, which are being skillfully stitched by approximately 350 women from SHGs operating across all blocks.
Each participant is compensated Rs 20 per flag by the government. The flags are being produced in three different sizes utilizing cotton or polyester fabrics, which are supplied directly by NRLM.
Commenting on the initiative, Jitendra Pratap Singh, the Deputy Commissioner for Self-Employment, stated: “The administration has tasked SHGs with the goal of crafting seven lakh flags. We have successfully completed about 80 percent of the production, and the remaining 20 percent will be finalized in the next two days. Our efforts are ongoing to meet the deadline.”
To ensure timely completion, Block Mission Managers (BMMs) have been appointed to oversee and report daily on the progress. The campaign has gained significant momentum following a directive from the Chief Secretary, mobilizing the entire administrative structure to work towards its success.
Sangeeta Kala, a member of one of the SHGs, shared her sentiments:
