Should Special Police Oversight Be Placed on Tejashwi Yadav's Close Associates?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Dec 24 (NationPress) Janata Dal(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar formally requested the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) to conduct special surveillance on Ramiz Nemat Khan, a key aide to the Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, and Deva Gupta, the RJD candidate for the Motihari Sadar Assembly seat.
Kumar expressed concerns in his letter, indicating that there are suspicions regarding Ramiz Nemat Khan and Deva Gupta potentially traveling abroad with Tejashwi Yadav.
He referred to media reports from December 5, which revealed that during the current Bihar Legislature session, information surfaced suggesting that Tejashwi Yadav had left the country with Ramiz Nemat Khan, who has a notorious criminal history.
Ramiz Nemat Khan hails from the Balrampur district (now Shravasti) in Uttar Pradesh, and his father-in-law, Rizwan Zaheer Khan, a former MP and MLA from the Samajwadi Party, is currently incarcerated for murder.
Additionally, Kumar noted that Khan's wife, Zeba Rizwan, ran for the Tulsipur Assembly election while imprisoned, though she was unsuccessful.
During the 2021 district panchayat elections, Ramiz Nemat Khan, along with his wife and father-in-law, were arrested in connection with the murder of Firoz alias Pappu, a former chairman of the Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat.
Kumar raised alarms, suggesting that if a known criminal could accompany the Leader of Opposition on an international journey, Deva Gupta might also be involved.
Deva Gupta, son of Hari Kishore Gupta from Chhatouni Chowk in Motihari Sadar (East Champaran), is the RJD candidate for the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections.
Furthermore, the letter indicated that Deva Gupta's name is included in a list of 100 wanted criminals published by the East Champaran Police.
A total of 28 serious criminal cases, including murder, extortion, and land grabbing, are alleged against him, with a reward of ₹1 lakh for his capture.
“Given these serious allegations, I request that the police closely monitor individuals with criminal backgrounds who are reportedly accompanying Tejashwi Yadav,” Neeraj Kumar concluded in his letter to the DGP.
