Is Tejashwi Yadav Right to Criticize the Bihar Government Over Crime and Exam Mismanagement?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 20 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, returned to the House on Friday after a brief hiatus and directed a fierce critique towards the Nitish Kumar-led government on multiple fronts.
Upon entering the House, he addressed reporters, unleashing a vehement condemnation of the state government, claiming that there has been a significant breakdown of law and order in Bihar.
Tejashwi asserted that incidents such as extortion, murder, and rape are constantly escalating in the state.
He suggested that the morale of criminals has surged as they receive protection from the government, leaving ordinary citizens in a state of fear.
According to him, criminals are acting like “Vijay and Samrat,” and the government has lost control over the situation.
Tejashwi specifically targeted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of being indifferent to Bihar’s dire circumstances.
He claimed that Nitish Kumar has become so ineffectual that he has assigned the state Home Department to the Bharatiya Janata Party, a step he never took during his previous tenures.
Tejashwi went on to accuse the Chief Minister of acting as a “puppet” under the BJP's pressure.
The RJD leader also pointed out that instead of taking action against criminals, the government is intimidating opposition leaders.
He criticized the lack of substantial action in criminal cases, alleging that the government provides complete protection to the offenders.
Earlier that day, Tejashwi also took to social media to criticize the government over law and order and examination management in Bihar.
He referred to the tragic death of a Class 10 student from the Masaurhi area of Patna, calling it a result of administrative insensitivity.
Reports indicate that the student, Komal Kumari, was en route to her first board examination but arrived at the examination center a few minutes late due to traffic congestion.
She was denied entry based on examination rules, despite her repeated pleas for consideration. Deeply distressed, she ultimately jumped in front of a train, resulting in her tragic death by suicide.
Tejashwi declared that this incident is not merely the failure of one student but a failure of the entire system, symbolizing the tragic closing of a daughter’s future and aspirations.
He stated that every examination in Bihar is plagued by mismanagement, traffic jams, and administrative negligence, leaving students, particularly girls, to bear the brunt.
Tejashwi called for immediate compensation for Komal Kumari’s family and urged the government to grant latecomers entry into examination centers based on humanitarian grounds.
He emphasized that no rule can outweigh the value of a child's life and called on society to raise its voice to prevent other families from experiencing such a tragedy.
This incident has elicited widespread grief and anger across Bihar, intensifying discussions on examination management, traffic arrangements, and administrative sensitivity.
While the opposition labels it a government failure, the administration has initiated an investigation.
