Jharkhand's 2026-27 Budget Introduces 100 New Schools and Ambedkar University

Ranchi, February 24 (NationPress) The Jharkhand government has launched a series of significant initiatives targeting education, health, tourism, infrastructure, and women’s empowerment in its 2026-27 Budget presented at the Assembly. One of the major highlights is the establishment of 100 new CM Schools of Excellence, which will feature CBSE-based education starting from the 2027-28 academic year. Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore noted that there are currently 80 such schools functioning throughout the state.
A model school dedicated to the children of martyrs has also been proposed.
In the realm of higher education, the government has put forth plans for the creation of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Chatra district. Additionally, five new residential schools for girls will be established—two in Dhanbad and one each in Palamu, Latehar, and Garhwa.
Through a new initiative called the “Mahila Kisan Khushali Yojana,” an allocation of Rs 25 crore has been made to support women farmers, aiming to integrate them into modern farming practices and connect them with both online and offline marketing.
The Budget also outlines a Gender Budget of Rs 34,211.27 crore, encompassing 232 schemes spanning 17 departments.
A substantial enhancement in the healthcare sector is also planned. The Sadar Hospitals located in Latehar, Sahebganj, and Saraikela-Kharsawan will be transformed into medical colleges and hospitals under a Public-Private Partnership model.
Furthermore, the government intends to add 220 MBBS seats in government medical colleges, including RIMS, by the following year. Presently, the state has 1,030 MBBS seats, with the objective of increasing this number to 1,325 over the next four years.
Postgraduate (PG) seats are set to rise from 225 to 325 next year, with a long-term aim of reaching 750 seats within four years.
The state also plans to establish 750 “Abua Dispensaries” to provide affordable and quality medicines across Jharkhand.
A total Budget of Rs 10,793.16 crore, amounting to 10.7 percent of the overall plan outlay, has been drafted based on 138 child development schemes.
To enhance air connectivity, the government has finalized an agreement with the Airports Authority of India to expand Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, increasing the runway length from 9,000 feet to 12,000 feet. A new greenfield airport has also been proposed in Sahibganj.
In the tourism sector, various infrastructure projects have been introduced, including glass bridges and ropeways at Dasham and Jonha Falls in Ranchi; a ropeway at Hundru Falls; skywalks and solar boats at Rajrappa and Patratu; a glass watchtower at Netarhat; as well as the development of Punasi Dam in Deoghar and Malay Dam in Palamu.
The government emphasized that the Budget aims to strike a balance between social welfare and infrastructure development, focusing on long-term human advancement and economic progress.
