Ranchi, Feb 17 (NationPress) In a significant decision, 37 inmates currently serving life sentences across various jails in Jharkhand will be granted release. This outcome emerged from a meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board held on Monday, presided over by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The board reviewed the cases of 103 life-sentenced prisoners, ultimately reaching a decision to release 37 individuals following thorough discussions on each case.

“We have reached a consensus to release 37 prisoners serving life sentences in Jharkhand jails. It is essential to facilitate income-generating opportunities for these individuals to ensure they can live fulfilling lives. It is our collective responsibility to guide them positively and help reintegrate them into society,” Hemant Soren stated on X.

This decision took into account judicial rulings and the recommendations from local law enforcement and prison officials.

CM Hemant Soren instructed officials to assess the social, economic, and familial backgrounds of the prisoners being released and to devise plans that provide them with sustainable livelihood opportunities.

He recommended connecting these individuals with skill development initiatives and programs focused on dairy farming, poultry, and livestock management.

The Chief Minister underscored the ethical obligation to reintegrate the released prisoners into society.

The Inspector General of Prisons has been tasked with monitoring the released prisoners, while local police and district officials will oversee their activities.

The meeting of the Sentence Review Board included notable attendees such as Avinash Kumar, Nalin Kumar, Vandana Dadel, Diwakar Pandey, Anurag Gupta, Sudarshan Prasad Mandal, and other key officials.
