J&K Police Seizes Assets Valued at Rs 5 Crore in Anantnag District

Srinagar, Dec 2 (NationPress) On Monday, the J&K Police attached a property worth Rs 5 crore in Anantnag district under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The police reported that a double-storeyed residential property was seized today in Anantnag district, in accordance with Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).

The property, registered under the name of Firdous Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Hugam Lonepora, Srigufwara, occupies an area of 1 kanal and 10 marlas (Survey No. 5419/561 Min) and is appraised at around Rs 5 crores. This action is associated with Case FIR No. 57/2024 from the Police Station Mattan and was carried out in the presence of an authorized police team and the Executive Magistrate, adhering to all legal guidelines,” an official stated.

He continued, stating that this action marks a crucial step in the ongoing investigation into illegal and subversive activities in the region.

“It underscores the strong commitment of Anantnag Police to mitigate threats to national security and uphold peace and order,” he added.

In another operation today, police confiscated a truck and apprehended the driver, who was found in possession of 211 Kg of poppy straw during a checkpoint in the Udhampur district.

Additionally, a residential property belonging to a drug dealer in the Sogam area of Kupwara district was also seized today.

On Sunday, authorities detained ten drug dealers in the Srinagar district.

Intelligence reports indicate that the majority of drugs are smuggled into J&K from across the line of control (LoC) and the international border (IB). The revenue generated from this trade is believed to fund terrorism. Furthermore, it is thought that once young individuals fall prey to substance abuse, they become vulnerable to manipulation by terrorists and their handlers operating from across the border.

The police have been actively confiscating properties owned by drug dealers and smugglers, as it is believed these assets are obtained through the profits of illegal drug trade.
