Bhopal, Jan 29 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, remarked on Wednesday that the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s decision to uphold the 27 percent reservation for the OBC community represents a triumph for Congress’s policies.
"This signifies a success for the policies of the Congress party. In March 2019, during my time as Chief Minister, I had implemented 27 percent reservation for the OBC community in Madhya Pradesh," stated Nath after the bench, including Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Vivek Jain, dismissed a petition challenging the reservation.
The court highlighted that the circular in question was what was contested, not the Act itself. Nevertheless, the bench has continued to maintain the stay on the 27 percent reservation, which had been established in 2020.
A total of 76 petitions were lodged in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, both for and against the 27 percent reservation for OBCs, while also contesting the execution of the 87:13 formula for recruitment and appointments.
The next hearing has been scheduled for February 28. A formal motion to withdraw two petitions (out of the 76) submitted by the general category was accepted by the division bench.
In the meantime, the Congress party accused the BJP of consistently misleading the public regarding OBC reservation, but the High Court's ruling has reinstated the path for the 27 percent reservation provision.
Numerous senior Congress figures, including former Chief Minister Kamal Nath and state unit chief Jitu Patwari, have collectively advocated for a 27 percent reservation quota for OBCs in Madhya Pradesh.
"The Congress government, under Kamal Nath, established the 27 percent reservation for OBCs, which faced opposition from the BJP. However, the High Court's ruling has eliminated all barriers. The OBC community should now receive the benefits of 27 percent reservation," stated the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
