Bhopal, July 5 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Saturday that the Madhya Pradesh government is set to present a new Bill regarding OBC reservation in the state Legislative Assembly.
The Chief Minister emphasized his administration's commitment to ensuring 27 percent reservation for OBC candidates in government jobs, instructing officials to draft a Bill for legislative discussion.
In response to the Congress party's accusations of delaying the implementation of the 27 percent OBC reservation, CM Yadav stated that the Congress had passed the previous Bill without conducting a proper survey and adequate preparation.
“The Congress party has misled the public on the OBC reservation matter. The Bill endorsed by the Congress government lacked proper groundwork and survey. The BJP government is determined to ensure 27 percent reservation for OBCs,” CM Yadav asserted during a press briefing.
Earlier, state Congress chief Jitu Patwari and the Leader of Opposition, Umang Singhar, criticized the BJP government for the delay in implementing the 27 percent reservation for OBCs.
The Chief Minister's comments followed a recent Supreme Court notice to the Madhya Pradesh government regarding the ongoing delay in filling 13 percent of government positions that are currently on hold due to the 27 percent OBC reservation policy.
The court has requested an explanation from the state for not appointing candidates despite the absence of any legal injunction against the increased OBC quota.
The Chief Secretary has been instructed to file an affidavit concerning this issue.
The notice was issued during a hearing on a petition filed by candidates affected by the delay in appointments.
Those petitioning, representing the OBC Mahasabha, urged the government to fill the 13 percent of positions that have remained unfilled for several years, despite the 27 percent OBC reservation policy being enacted in 2019 by the previous Baghel administration.
The petitioners pointed out that even though there is no Supreme Court stay on the implementation of the 27 percent reservation for OBCs, the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) has kept 13 percent of posts on hold during various recruitment processes in recent years.
