Kannada Television Actor Arrested for Alleged Sexual Harassment of Actress

Bengaluru, Dec 27 (NationPress) Karnataka Police apprehended the well-known Kannada television serial actor Charith Balappa on allegations of sexual harassment and blackmail involving a young actress over her private videos on Friday.
The police in Rajarajeshwari Nagar detained the actor after a complaint was filed by a 29-year-old actress.
An FIR has been lodged against him, encompassing various charges under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt to another person), 308(2) (extortion through threats, fear, or intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 75(1)(i) (sexual harassment), alongside 75(1)(ii) R/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
DCP (West) S. Girish revealed on Friday that the incidents occurred between 2023 and 2024, with the victim reporting the matter to the police on December 13.
DCP Girish noted, “The complainant, who has been active in Kannada and Telugu serials since 2017, became acquainted with the accused in 2023. The accused pressured her into a romantic relationship and subjected her to mental harassment, threats to her life, and threats of murder.”
The accused demanded physical intimacy from the complainant, exploiting the fact that she resided alone, according to the DCP.
Furthermore, the DCP mentioned that the accused, along with his associates, consistently created disturbances near the complainant’s home, coercing her into a physical relationship.
The accused allegedly threatened that if she did not meet his financial demands, he would disseminate explicit videos and images of her engaging in sexual activities across all social media platforms and in WhatsApp groups comprising actors and actresses.
The complainant has filed this case against the accused based on these allegations and the associated threats, as stated by DCP Girish.
The victim has accused Charith Balappa of taking undue advantage of their acquaintance to force her into a physical relationship. She informed the police that he blackmailed her, claiming that failure to comply with his demands would result in her defamation.
Moreover, the victim alleged that the accused, a divorcee, leveraged his connections with influential individuals, including politicians and rowdies, threatening that he could have her imprisoned at his convenience.
She further claimed that the accused issued life threats, stating he could end her life, according to police sources.
