Bengaluru, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has denounced the actions of Congress MLAs and MLCs after Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot chose not to present the speech crafted by the state government. The party is insisting that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah offer a formal apology, while also calling for the Speaker to take necessary measures against Congress legislators who allegedly tried to obstruct and assault the Governor as he exited the House.
During a press conference on Thursday, Leader of Opposition (LoP) R. Ashoka and BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra stated, “The Governor made a commendable decision today. He fulfilled his duty. However, the ruling Congress party’s disrespect towards the Governor is intolerable. The actions of ruling party MLAs and MLCs attempting to attack the Governor are entirely unconstitutional. I demand that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah apologize for the conduct of his party members.”
“He must also implement strict measures. The Speaker should take action against those MLAs and MLCs who attempted to hinder and assault the Governor,” he insisted.
Vijayendra questioned the circumstances that led to this situation in Karnataka. “The Congress-led government is trying to misuse the Assembly and create conflict with the Centre, which is unacceptable. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government have introduced numerous reforms, renaming MGNREGA as VB-G RAM G. The Prime Minister’s vision aims to realize Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of ‘Ram Raj’ and ‘Gram Raj’,” he noted.
“To realize this vision, several changes have been implemented, and the underprivileged are responding positively to these initiatives. Sadly, the Siddaramaiah government is indulging in propaganda and constructing a false narrative, which is unacceptable,” he continued.
“It is up to the Congress-led government to approach the Supreme Court. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seems to have forgotten that he is the Chief Minister of the state, not merely of the Congress party. I urge him to remember that he represents the entire state. He should not diminish the dignity of the Governor’s office or the legislature,” Vijayendra remarked in response to inquiries.
“By selectively applying constitutional provisions, one cannot turn the Governor into a mere puppet. Expecting the Governor to operate according to your commands is unrealistic. Therefore, I assert that the state government and the Chief Minister must come forward to safeguard the dignity of the legislature. It is the Chief Minister himself who is undermining constitutional integrity,” he claimed.
“If the Governor wished to act as a BJP tool, he could have skipped today’s session, but he did not. Respecting the Constitution, the Governor attended the House and addressed the joint session. He has performed his responsibilities. What more do they anticipate? It is unfair for the Congress-led government to politicize and exploit the situation in Karnataka,” Vijayendra stated.
He further alleged that the Congress government was engaging in intimidation simply because it holds the support of 140 MLAs. “The citizens of the state are closely observing everything. If the Congress government fails to amend its behavior and continues to undermine the federal system, the populace is prepared to demonstrate how a party with 140 MLAs can be diminished to 40. That day is approaching,” he warned.
He urged the state government to comprehend the public sentiment, proceed in the correct direction, and uphold democracy alongside respect for the Constitution.
