The education sector allocation has been reduced, raising concerns.
Vijayendra noted a lack of engagement from ruling Congress MLAs during the Budget presentation.
Concerns over the state’s dependency on the Excise Department for revenue were highlighted.

Bengaluru, March 6 (NationPress) The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra expressed strong discontent on Friday, stating that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has failed to meet the expectations of the state's residents with his recent Budget presentation.

In a statement to the press, Vijayendra remarked that as the Chief Minister began delivering the Budget, it had an air of literary elegance.

"While it may have sounded pleasing and perhaps enjoyable to read, it has ultimately provided no tangible benefits to the citizens of Karnataka. His 17th Budget is akin to offering an empty vessel to the populace," he asserted.

Highlighting the state's borrowing patterns, Vijayendra noted that last year's Budget saw the government borrow Rs 1.16 lakh crore, while the current 2025–26 Budget anticipates a borrowing of Rs 1.32 lakh crore.

"Over the past three years, Siddaramaiah has accumulated a staggering debt of Rs 4.39 lakh crore, which he has now made his hallmark," the State BJP President claimed.

He pointed out that Siddaramaiah, an experienced leader, had a significant opportunity to deliver a visionary Budget but instead engaged in a futile exercise.

"This Budget is uninspired and lacks foresight," Vijayendra stated.

The BJP leader observed a palpable disinterest among ruling Congress MLAs during the Budget reading, with some even expressing to senior members that they felt misled by Siddaramaiah.

He remarked that only a handful of Ministers were present, while many others appeared disengaged.

Vijayendra further criticized the reduction in funding for the education sector, deeming it a crucial area.

"Previously, 12% was allocated to education, but this time it has been cut back. No sector of priority has been emphasized, and there is a clear absence of a development-focused approach in the Budget," he elaborated.

He stated that the expectations for this state Budget had not been met.

Moreover, he accused Siddaramaiah of neglecting farmers and failing to prioritize youth employment opportunities.

"The government continually relies on the Excise Department due to its inability to gather funds for its five guarantee schemes," Vijayendra pointed out.

He further alleged that the Chief Minister anticipates a revenue of Rs 45,000 crore from the Excise Department this year.

"It appears that the Chief Minister is attempting to transform the state into one that relies heavily on alcohol consumption," Vijayendra criticized.

He also condemned the government for its inadequate attention to healthcare and irrigation projects while neglecting the development of North Karnataka.

Vijayendra claimed that even Mysuru, the Chief Minister's own district, has not received significant funding.

He accused the state administration of completely overlooking the coastal region.

"Perhaps due to the coastal region's strong support for the BJP, it has not even been acknowledged in the Budget," Vijayendra concluded.

He emphasized that the state Budget lacks a cohesive vision for the development of all regions, including the coastal areas, North Karnataka, and Central Karnataka.
