Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka), Jan 12 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have taken a man into custody for posting offensive remarks on the Instagram profile of Congress MLA Nayana Motamma.
The individual has been named as Yakshit Raj, a resident of Ramanagar, according to police reports on Monday. Nayana Motamma serves as the representative for the Mudigere Assembly constituency in Chikkamagaluru district and is the daughter of senior political figure Motamma.
As per police statements, MLA Nayana Motamma maintains two Instagram accounts: one for personal use and another dedicated to her political endeavors. The accused reportedly made vulgar and demeaning comments on her personal account, including inappropriate remarks about her clothing choices.
In October 2025, Shamshuddin, MLA Nayana Motamma's personal assistant, filed a police complaint at the Mudigere police station. The complaint alleged that the accused had been persistently targeting the MLA with objectionable comments, particularly focusing on her attire.
Following the complaint, law enforcement initiated an investigation and apprehended the suspect at his workplace in Bengaluru. Preliminary findings indicate that the accused had repeatedly made derogatory remarks with the intent to humiliate the MLA.
In response to the incident, MLA Nayana Motamma stated, “I reject the mentality that stereotypes women. If I choose to wear sleeveless outfits, they label me as a politician who lacks credibility. They stoop to the level of calling us characterless. Such comments originate from accounts lacking profile photos. One day, I will confront them.”
The accused is currently in judicial custody, with further investigations ongoing.
Previously, the Cyber Crime unit of the Bengaluru Police made several arrests for posting obscene remarks directed at Kannada actress Ramya on social media. These arrests followed an investigation involving IP address tracking and social media ID analysis conducted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) cyber team.
Actress and former Congress MP Ramya had lodged a police complaint in July 2025 against individuals who sent vulgar, abusive, and threatening messages on her social media, including threats of rape and death. This harassment was primarily from fans of actor Darshan, following her statements regarding the Renukaswamy murder case.
The online harassment escalated after Ramya shared a news article about the Supreme Court's proceedings in the Renukaswamy murder case and called for justice for the victim's family. Actor Darshan is the key suspect in that case.
Additionally, the Bengaluru Police apprehended two individuals for allegedly disseminating obscene and derogatory content against jailed Kannada actor Darshan's wife, Vijayalakshmi, on social media. These arrests occurred after she lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station last month, seeking legal action against over 18 individuals involved in the matter. She expressed her frustration that her complaint was overlooked, while actions were taken swiftly regarding actress Ramya's situation.
