New Delhi, Jan 17 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party leader and ex-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement a 50 percent discount for students using the Delhi Metro.

In his correspondence with PM Modi, Kejriwal emphasized that the financial responsibilities for the Metro services should be equally shared by both the Central and Delhi governments.

In the letter shared on social media, Kejriwal wrote in Hindi, "This letter aims to highlight a significant issue affecting the students of Delhi. A majority of them rely on the Metro for commuting to educational institutions. To alleviate their financial strain, I suggest providing a 50 percent concession for students using the Delhi Metro."

He further remarked, "The Delhi Metro is a joint initiative between the Delhi government and the Central government, and thus, the expenses should be equally divided between the two."

Kejriwal also mentioned that the AAP intends to make bus transportation free for students. "We are planning to offer completely free bus rides for students. I genuinely hope you will support this initiative."

This letter comes just days before the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi.

The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes on February 8.

In the national capital, the AAP, BJP, and Congress are engaged in a fierce political contest, each making numerous promises to the citizens of Delhi.

On January 16, the Congress party announced plans to provide Rs 500 for LPG cylinders, free ration kits, and free electricity up to 300 units to residents if they come to power in Delhi. They have also introduced the 'Pyari Didi Yojana', which pledges Rs 2,500 monthly aid to women.

The AAP, aiming for a third consecutive term, has promised free healthcare for senior citizens, a monthly allowance of Rs 18,000 for priests in temples and granthis in gurudwaras, the Mahila Samman Yojana, and other existing welfare initiatives.

The BJP has been advocating for the continuation of welfare and subsidy programs, offering up to 300 free units of electricity for households and 500 free units for religious establishments, as well as free bus rides for students and senior citizens, and monthly financial aid for women.
