New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) As AAP claimed that former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's convoy faced an attack during his door-to-door campaign in the New Delhi Assembly constituency in the lead-up to the upcoming elections, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Saturday labeled Kejriwal an 'arrogant dictator' who sought to suppress the youth of Delhi.
In an interview with IANS, Bhandari stated, "Arvind Kejriwal is an arrogant dictator. The authentic video, posted by Parvesh Verma on his X account, distinctly shows that Kejriwal is oppressing the youth of Delhi. The vehicle was advancing, and the youth of Delhi were challenging Kejriwal. Instead of addressing their issues, this arrogant dictator drove over them. It is evident to the people of Delhi that Kejriwal is facing defeat in this election, and in his anxiety about that loss, he is driving over the youth of Delhi."
AAP previously released a video of the incident, asserting that Kejriwal’s vehicle was pelted with stones and bricks. The party also posted the video on X, accusing the BJP of plotting to harm Kejriwal.
"With its defeat looming, the BJP is so frantic that it is making attempts on Kejriwal's life. Does the BJP intend to take revenge for serving the people of Delhi by attempting to kill Kejriwal?" the ruling party in Delhi, which has held power since 2013, remarked.
Initial reports indicate that the alleged attack occurred in New Delhi, the constituency represented by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
In response, BJP leaders were quick to refute AAP’s allegations. Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate from New Delhi, mentioned that Kejriwal's car had struck two young men who were questioning him about development in Delhi.
"Both were taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital. In the face of impending defeat, Kejriwal disregarded the value of human life. I am on my way to the hospital," Verma posted on X.
In another statement, the BJP leader pondered Kejriwal’s actions, saying, "What sort of politics is this, @ArvindKejriwal? If a person questions your party or policies, does it become a 'murderous attack'? Every citizen has the right to question their leaders. And tell me, who gave you the authority to try to run someone over with a vehicle? Questioning is not an attack; it is the foundation of democracy. Please stop misleading the public. #AAPDrama."
The 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for elections on February 5, with votes being counted on February 8.
AAP is striving for a third consecutive term, while the BJP is resolute in its effort to challenge the Arvind Kejriwal-led party’s supremacy in Delhi. Furthermore, AAP faces opposition from the Congress, the party it dethroned in the 2013 elections.
