Kejriwal's Election Pledge: Funding for Private Security Guards in RWAs

New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) As the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections approach, AAP National Convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday that funds will be allocated for Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) to hire private security guards.
During a press conference, Kejriwal emphasized that this proposal for private security guards aims to improve public safety, which has been a central concern for the ruling party that previously implemented measures such as CCTV cameras and colony gates.
“The initiative to employ security guards stems from community feedback. It comes at a crucial time as residents are increasingly feeling vulnerable due to a rise in crime within the city,” he stated, criticizing the BJP-led Central government for its inadequate crime control efforts.
“While the BJP may not prioritize the safety of Delhi’s residents, we consider citizens as family and aim to provide them with a sense of security,” he remarked.
He clarified that the Delhi government will financially support RWAs in recruiting private security personnel, with the number of guards determined by the population of families within each association.
Kejriwal expressed that the hiring of private security guards by RWAs is merely a step to foster a sense of safety among residents and is not intended to “replace the police, who are accountable for ensuring security.”
The AAP National Convener is optimistic that the presence of private security personnel will assist in controlling the movement of unauthorized individuals in neighborhoods and deter minor crimes.
The former Chief Minister also criticized the BJP for staging protests against him regarding the “Purvanchali insult” matter.
“On Thursday, I approached the Election Commission of India to raise concerns that under the pretext of addressing Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants, they are removing names from the electoral rolls of Purvanchali voters. In response, they are making unfounded accusations against me. If any party has honored and provided dignity to Purvanchalis in Delhi, it is the AAP,” stated Kejriwal.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva responded by asserting that Kejriwal’s comments on Thursday, labeling Purvanchalis as “fake voters,” have exposed the troubling reality of his perspective.
Approximately 42 percent of Delhi’s 1.55 crore voters are Purvanchalis, or migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and their votes significantly influence outcomes in nearly half of the city’s 70 Assembly constituencies. Notable constituencies with a high concentration of Purvanchali voters include Burari, Laxmi Nagar, and Dwarka.
