Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 7 (NationPress) In a significant restructuring move, the President of the Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced the formation of a 23-member core committee on Thursday, which includes a blend of both national and state leaders, aimed at revitalizing the party's organizational framework within the state.
This committee marks the largest core assembly in the history of Kerala BJP, prominently featuring two Union Ministers from the state, Suresh Gopi and George Kurian, along with Rajya Sabha MP C. Sadanandan, former Minister of State V. Muraleedharan, and all previous State party Presidents.
Additionally, the committee comprises Delhi-based leaders Anil Antony and A.P. Abdullakutty, alongside four general secretaries and seven vice-presidents of the party's Kerala unit.
Furthermore, two special invitees, senior BJP figure Prakash Javadekar and MP Aparajita Sarangi, are also part of this committee.
Among the panel, Aparajita Sarangi and State BJP General Secretary Sobha Surendran stand out as the only women.
Chandrasekhar, who took over as State party President in March, has stirred surprise with his ascent, particularly as Kerala is not his traditional political arena.
He previously contended against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where Tharoor achieved a fourth consecutive victory.
In July, Chandrasekhar initiated a refreshed state committee, indicating a transformation in the party's internal structure, characterized by a mix of youth, seasoned leaders, and new faces.
Notably absent from the core committee is R. Sreelekha, Kerala's first female Director General of Police and newly appointed State BJP Vice-President, whereas Shone George, who joined the BJP about 17 months ago and was recently elevated to Vice-President, is included.
Shone is the offspring of seasoned politician P.C. George, whose party merged with the BJP last year.
The establishment of this 'jumbo committee' comes with a clear objective: the state unit aims to boost its vote share to 25 percent in the forthcoming local body elections in December, a significant increase from the 19 percent attained in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
